This action research aimed to assess the implementation of Disaster Risk Reduction Education activities and its effects to the lives of the learners at Buaya Elementary School, Buaya, Lapu-Lapu City during the School Year 2019-2020 as basis for an action plan. This utilized the descriptive survey method in which a self-made survey questionnaire was used as the primary source in gathering the data. The respondents of this study were the 50 learners of the said school. The different statistical tools used were percentage, weighted mean and T-test.
The findings revealed that the respondent’s awareness and knowledge of the practices on what to do before-during-after disasters like fire, flood, typhoon and earthquake were very much knowledgeable. It also publicized that the level of awareness among respondents on the DRR activities such as lecture and video presentation, picture and story show, drawing and coloring, DRR jingle and Evacuation Drills were very much enhanced. There was no significant mean difference between the perception of the respondent’s groups on the activities that enhanced the DRR.
It was concluded that through DRR Education, the learners may be able to easily build their knowledge on various natural disasters and through the use and proper application of DRR activities, their interest and desire will increase in order to take appropriate action for disaster preparedness and mitigation, thus, reducing its risks and impacts. Based on the findings and conclusion, it is highly recommended that the action plan be adopted.

Research Objectives and Focus
The primary objective of this action research is to assess the implementation and effectiveness of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) education activities at Buaya Elementary School. The study aims to evaluate learner awareness regarding natural disaster preparedness and identify the impact of various educational strategies, using the findings as a foundation for a structured action plan to improve disaster resilience among students.
- Assessment of current student awareness levels regarding fire, flood, typhoon, and earthquake preparedness.
- Evaluation of the effectiveness of specific DRR activities, including lectures, video presentations, and evacuation drills.
- Analysis of the relationship between DRR educational participation and knowledge improvement.
- Development of a comprehensive DRR action plan for school implementation.
Excerpt from the Book
Rationale of the Study
The goal of education is to change individuals behaviors Mindfulness about dangers and risks need to begin in early education before capacities to address them can turn out to be a piece of becoming community and expert obligations as individuals develop.
Education can have a catalytic result to toughen communities and lessen vulnerability. This was acknowledged, by governments throughout the world in the Sendai Framework, which calls for “a culture of prevention and education on disaster risk.” The Asia Pacific Region is the most disaster-prone region in the world, facing numerous hazards, from severe flooding to storms to volcanic eruptions to tsunamis and earthquakes (Maplecroft, 2017).
It is recognized that the Philippines is prone to cataclysmic events and catastrophes because of its topographical area. Likewise, man-made catastrophes, wrongdoings and demonstrations of psychological warfare put the lives of the Filipinos in question. These crisis conditions, regardless of whether regular or man-made, are generally referred to as incidents that requires response actions.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the core purpose of this research?
The research assesses how effectively Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) activities are implemented at Buaya Elementary School and how these activities improve students' knowledge and preparedness for various natural disasters.
Which disasters are specifically addressed in the study?
The study evaluates student awareness and preparedness practices for four specific natural hazards: fire, flood, typhoon, and earthquake.
What is the primary goal of the researchers?
The main goal is to evaluate the impact of DRR education and create a sustainable action plan to further enhance disaster resilience among students and the local community.
What research methodology was employed?
The researchers utilized a descriptive survey method, collecting primary data through a self-made questionnaire administered to 50 student respondents.
What topics are covered in the main body of the work?
The main body covers the students' demographic profiles, their level of awareness of pre-, during-, and post-disaster practices, and the extent to which specific activities (like lectures, drills, and DRR jingles) enhanced their understanding.
Which keywords best characterize this study?
Key terms include Disaster Risk Reduction, School Safety, Disaster Preparedness, Student Awareness, and Risk Mitigation.
How does the school integrate DRR into its curriculum?
The school integrates DRR through formal and non-formal curriculum activities, including lectures, video presentations, drawing/coloring tasks, and practical evacuation drills.
Why is the community involvement emphasized?
The study notes that schools act as focal points for the community, and messages learned by students are often transferred to families and neighbors, thereby increasing community-wide resilience.
