Excerpt from the Book

Employee motivation

Amabile (1993) observes that the motivation of employees is a highly valued topic if it comes to the daily business work life. Figure 1 illustrates the two types of approaches of employees which come through high motivation and low motivation within a company.

It is not always easy for the leader to motivate their fallower, but as you can see in figure 1, he or she always stands between the employee and the individual motivation. If the leader is not succeeding in motivating the employees in the right way, then they will automatically generate a working atmosphere which consists out of low motivation, they will only make a little effort in daily business, their work outcomes will not be of a good quality and if they do not feel comfortable anymore, they might leave the company or at least avoid their workplace. So, in other words, through interactions with employees, leaders should actively participate in creating the right sense of motivation for their employees, so that they tend to be more creative and productive and persistent. It is necessary to create a nice working atmosphere to increase each individual performance outcomes to the best. (Amabile, 1993)
