Airbus S.A.S. in general and especially to the Airbus A380. Furthermore the characteristics of the aviation industry will be pointed out.

4.2. Power of customers

Due to the high fix costs in the production of each aircraft customer have some kind of power from this point of view. This is underlined by the fact that airbus sold the first A380 quite cheaply to get the production running and to promote the aircrafts. They did not reach the break even so far which is planned in 2015. On the other hand airbus has still a back log of 186 Airbus A380 which fills the production lines for the next years. This weakens the power of customers. Furthermore customers need to be differentiated. As the A380 is quite successful in Europe and parts of Asia (especially Southeast Asia) Airbus did not get any orders from North American airlines or big Japanese airlines (like All Nippon Airlines or Japan Air Lines). Both areas are traditionally Boeing oriented. It can be assumed that an airline from the mentioned areas would receive an earlier delivery slot if necessary to promote the aircraft. As a result it can be assumed that those airlines would have more customer power than others, especially during price negotiations.
