Personalized learning, which tailors educational experiences to individual student needs, has become a focal point in modern pedagogy. Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI), especially generative AI and large language models (LLMs), offer powerful new tools for dynamically customizing learning content and engagement. This paper explores the role of generative AI in creating adaptive learning systems. We review current literature on AI-driven personalization and describe a controlled study wherein an LLM was integrated into a learning management system (LMS) to generate customized instructional materials. In the experiment, students using AI-generated personalized content showed a substantial improvement in test scores and engagement compared to a control group using standard materials. Qualitative feedback indicated higher motivation and satisfaction among the AI-assisted learners. Our findings are consistent with prior research demonstrating significant learning gains from AI-enabled platforms. We also discuss challenges such as ensuring content quality, addressing ethical concerns, and protecting student data privacy. The results suggest that generative AI can revolutionize education by shifting from one-size-fits-all instruction to more student-centered learning, though careful design and oversight are needed to realize its full benefits.
