Excerpt from the Book
1.) Crisis Background:
Here we are going to present a summary that starts from the first president Felix Houphouet Boigny who played very well his role of façade President near France.
For the Ivorians who were ignoring his economic and political connections with France, Houphouet Boigny was a very good President. Nobody knew his hidden deal of granting sixty five per cent of Cote D’Ivoire’s resources to France as revealed by Koulibaly Mamadou (2005).
According to Atlas du Monde severe economic crisis compelled Houphouet to declare in 1987, his inability to pay the debts of Cote D’Ivoire to the IMF and the World Bank who imposed him a Prime Minister: Alassane Dramane Ouattara. His role was to take unpopular measures that would improve the economy and pay the above named Bretenwood Institutions(2006). Houphouet’s health was more and more fragile, and he had to choose through constitution the person who would continue his power in case he dies.
