Excerpt from the Book

Company Culture – The Case of Hyatt Hotels Corp.

Hyatt Hotels Corporation is one of the major hotel companies that have adopted and embedded the values of cultural diversity into their mission statement and gradually made it part of their DNA and guiding principles. Interestingly enough Hyatt’s culturally diverse work environment does not only apply to its employees, but also promotes establishing business ties with suppliers classified as certain minority groups through their Supplier Diversity Program (Hyatt 2018). The company has been ranked 2nd on Fortune’s list of US companies doing the most to create inclusive cultures for minorities, LGBT employees, and women (Fortune, 2018). If we look at the guiding principles that have helped Hyatt establish its reputation of inclusiveness, the following three points stand out (Hyatt 2018):

- Hyatt has a clear diversity & inclusion framework where people are placed as the key drivers behind their success emphasizing cultural diversity as a competitive advantage

- Their Diversity & Inclusion Strategy is embedded into the Global Business Strategy

- A Cross-Cultural Competence path is followed in order to achieve inclusion of a culturally diverse work environment
