Summary Excerpt Details

The study area received less attention from earlier workers which they consider the rocks as older granites that were barren, but according to this research work the rocks were found to be among the metamorphic terrain specifically migmatite rocks formed as part of northeastern Nigerian basement complex rocks which was affected by series of orogenic cycles that undergoes regional metamorphism and intrusion of younger granite rocks occurred sporadically in the study area. Detailed field mapping and sampling was done in order to identify and record the physical features of the rocks. Petrographic studies were conducted in both plane polarised light and cross polarised light in which microscopic structures were identified and noted. Field investigations and petrographic studies reveal that the rocks in the study area are metamorphic rocks based on certain structures observed, some of the structures include ptygmatic folding, crenulation cleavage, pinch and swell, andulus extinction and pleuchroic halo which are characteristics of metamorphic rocks. Therefore, the area was found to be underlaid by migmatite rocks which were classified as banded orthogneiss, straumalitic, and nebulitic migmatites and some intrusion of younger granites. Tin, tantalite, tourmaline and corundum mineralization were inferred.

Zielsetzung und Themenschwerpunkte (Objectives and Key Themes)

This research examines the geological features of the Kariya rocks, specifically the migmatite rocks, in Ganjuwa L.G.A., Bauchi, Northeast Nigeria. The study explores the metamorphic processes that shaped the rocks and their relationship to the surrounding geological formations, with a focus on the Pan-African orogenic cycle.

  • The formation and characteristics of the migmatite rocks in the Kariya area.
  • The influence of the Pan-African orogeny on the metamorphic processes in the region.
  • The identification and classification of different migmatite types based on field observations and petrographic analysis.
  • The potential for mineralization in the area based on the identified rock types and structures.
  • The geologic history of the study area as revealed by the observed structures and metamorphic conditions.

Zusammenfassung der Kapitel (Chapter Summaries)

The introductory chapter establishes the context of the study, detailing the location of the study area within the Nigerian basement complex, where the rocks have undergone metamorphism due to various orogenic cycles. The chapter also highlights the prevalence of migmatite rocks and younger granites within the study area, and introduces the key geological structures that will be analyzed.

The literature review chapter delves into the existing knowledge about the Pan-African orogeny, its impact on the Nigerian basement complex, and the formation of migmatite-gneiss complexes. It provides a detailed overview of the geological history of the region, incorporating relevant research by prominent figures like WQ Kennedy, Kroner and Stern, and Ajibade et al.

The materials and methods chapter outlines the methodologies used in the research, including field mapping, sample collection, and petrographic analysis. It describes the various tools and techniques employed to analyze the rocks and interpret the gathered data, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the research approach.

The discussion of results chapter explores the findings of the research, focusing on the observed rock types, their characteristics, and the structures that indicate their genesis. The chapter provides detailed descriptions of the different migmatite types, such as banded orthogneiss and straumalitic migmatite, with reference to their mineralogy, color, and texture.
