The paper aims to discuss about the case study profile and assessment of two global companies, Alarmlogic and Amazon. An evaluative and thematical comparison and ranking will underscore the need to determine and compare the website functionalities of these two global companies. Globalization is a phenomenon worldwide that affects each individual, businesses and organizations, whether directly or indirectly. This paper supposits the argument for adaptation to globalization and website improvements, as benefits outweigh drawbacks for these two firms due to intense competition. To understand globalization as a phenomenon, Giddens (1991) defines globalization as "the intensification of social relations throughout the world, linking distant localities in such a way that local happenings are formed as a result of events that occur many miles away and vice versa”. According to Held, Mcgrew, Goldblatt & Perraton (1999), the four elements to justify globalization must address, extension, intensity, celerity and impact. We can perceive how the technical functionalities of these two companies can address the global challenges posed to these globalized companies.

Zusammenfassung der Kapitel (Chapter Summaries)
Introduction: This introductory section sets the stage for a comparative case study of Alarmlogic and Amazon, focusing on the impact of globalization on their respective website functionalities. It establishes the core argument: that adaptation to globalization, particularly through website improvements, offers significant benefits for these companies in an intensely competitive environment. The introduction leverages theoretical frameworks from Giddens (1991) and Held et al. (1999) to define and contextualize globalization, framing the subsequent analysis within a broader understanding of its multifaceted influences.
Alarmlogic Profile: This chapter provides a detailed profile of Alarmlogic, a South Australian business-to-business and consumer-based company established in 1991. It outlines Alarmlogic's product offerings, which include various electronic security systems for domestic, commercial, and industrial purposes. The profile includes specific details on the company's target markets (domestic and SMEs) and highlights its sales and technical personnel's extensive industry experience. This information is crucial for understanding the context in which the subsequent analysis of the company’s website functionality will take place.
Functionality of Alarmlogic Website: This section delves into the specifics of Alarmlogic's website functionality, characterizing it as a first-generation, information-based system with limited interactivity. The analysis points to several key deficiencies, including the lack of a shopping cart, search engine optimization, and real-time purchasing capabilities. The website is presented as primarily asynchronous, hindering two-way interaction with customers. The absence of these features is presented as a critical limitation in the context of modern e-business practices.
Re-identify Functionalities: This chapter critiques Alarmlogic's website's shortcomings regarding its ability to meet consumer needs within the digital landscape. It emphasizes the website's failure to provide essential features like online purchasing, creating a significant barrier to efficient customer engagement and sales. The lack of a user-generated content platform, such as a community forum, is also highlighted as a missed opportunity to foster customer interaction and feedback. The overall assessment underscores the need for integration and immediate responses to better serve the customer base.
Ranking of Graphic System: This section evaluates the graphical user interface (GUI) of Alarmlogic's website. It assesses the website's response time, finding it to be within an acceptable range (2-3 seconds). While praising the website's lack of clutter and user-friendliness, the analysis criticizes the low resolution (120 x 209 pixels) of the images, suggesting an opportunity for improvement. The discussion touches upon the use of vector graphics and compares them to raster graphics. The overall ranking of the graphic system is given as 6/10.
Summary of Alarmlogic Case Exkurs: This chapter summarizes the findings of the Alarmlogic case study, arguing for significant improvements to the website's functionality. It recommends the development of a more interactive, third-generation website that includes features such as product customization and online payment options. The analysis concludes with a critical assessment of the website's limited international reach and usability.
SEO Value-adding Recommendations: This section focuses on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategies that could significantly enhance Alarmlogic’s online presence.
