Agricultural extension service is the vital program to develop an agricultural sector across the world. However, Ethiopia agricultural extension programme faces a number of serious challenges to achieve its prime target goal. Therefore, the main objective of this seminar was to review the challenges of extension service on agricultural crop production and its role to achieving agricultural sector goal in Ethiopia.
The paper used journal articles, government reports, thesis and various literature reviews in the country. This paper was evaluated and analyzed published documents by using quantitative and thematic method. To brining better strengthen of AES, Ethiopia was adapted PES from PADETE in 2010 but extension service has challenges to meet agricultural sector goal. Concerning to extension service constrain, the paper synthesis shows that poor selection candidates for development agents, lack of extension providers knowledge and skill capacity related to poor training quality of ATVET colleges were limited to provide quality extension service in Ethiopia. Limited credit service, high loan interest and unavailability credit service were the major challenge of AES.
Furthermore, weak linkage of research center to extension system was limited extension services and made farmers under indigenous knowledge practice. Lack of appropriate adaptation of technologies, high cost of new technology, lacks of new technologies distributed in the country were limited quality extension services to the farmers. Political unrest has been bring a total failure and losses of private and public resources and make limited distribution of agricultural supplies on time was affected agricultural productivity and production.
