This study aimed to identify and describe the challenges and barriers encountered by the students in modular learning. This study utilized quantitative research design. The researchers sent out an electronic survey via google forms to students. The respondents were selected using convenience sampling technique.
Using open-ended questions, and Likert scale the following data were obtained: demographics; self-assessment of capacity for modular learning; and challenges and learning barriers encountered by the students in modular learning. Descriptive statistics were calculated. Under prevailing conditions, the students considered themselves physically and mentally capable of engaging in modular learning. Challenges experienced by the students were classified to 4 categories: individual; domestic; institutional; and community barriers.
The study limited its coverage on the response of 217 students in Eugenio Cabezas National High School S.Y. 2021-2022. Research on distance learning is still in its early phases and there are very few studies which investigated the modular learning. Hence, the findings of this study are of paramount importance for future learning continuity plans of educational institutions and stakeholders.

Chapter Summaries
Introduction and Rationale: This chapter sets the context of the study by highlighting the widespread disruption to education caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the shift to distance learning, specifically modular learning. It defines distance learning and modular learning, referencing the Philippine government's response and the ongoing challenges faced by students and educators. The chapter emphasizes the scarcity of research on modular learning and positions the study as crucial for informing future educational strategies.
Literature Review: This chapter reviews existing literature on modular learning and distance education, drawing on various sources to define the methodology and explore existing challenges. It examines the effectiveness of modular approaches in education and contrasts this with challenges to implementation, including resource availability, training, commitment of administrators, and coordination among stakeholders. The review highlights the lack of extensive research on the topic, reinforcing the need for the current study.
Research Questions: This section outlines the specific research questions guiding the study. The study aims to describe the demographic profile of the learners and assess their self-assessment of their capacity for modular learning. Crucially, it investigates the challenges and learning barriers encountered by the students, categorizing them across individual, domestic, institutional, and community levels. These questions are essential to understand the multifaceted nature of the difficulties facing students transitioning to modular learning.
Scope and Limitations: This chapter defines the scope of the study, explicitly stating its focus on the challenges experienced by students within Eugenio Cabezas National High School during the 2021-2022 school year. It clearly outlines the limitations of the study, emphasizing that the findings are based solely on the responses of 217 students and acknowledging the limitations of the convenience sampling technique used. This transparent acknowledgment of limitations is critical to the study's validity and interpretation.
Research Methodology: This chapter details the research methodology employed, specifying the use of convenient sampling to select participants who were readily accessible and possessed the necessary technological resources. It describes the data collection method, highlighting the use of a validated survey questionnaire divided into two parts focusing on student demographics and the challenges of modular learning. The methodology section ensures transparency and reproducibility of the research process.
