6 Processes and Phases of Project Management

Imagine we have a huge project ahead of us, and we don't know where to start. If we tick like most people, then we intuitively divide our project into easily digestible chunks to keep track of things. It is exactly at this point that the project phase comes into question. Now, what is a project phase? What will be achieved with it? What project phases are there?

We can look at the project phases exactly as follows: A project phase is a defined, temporal period of the project process. Phases divide the project into chronological sections in which certain results are to be achieved. Phases usually begin and end with a milestone. They can run sequentially one after the other or overlap.

It can be stated that project management should also be a repeatable and plannable process that can be used for all projects in a company as far as possible. To achieve this goal, it is important to have a clear and preferably written project management process in place. This process covers the following five universal phases of the project life cycle: Project initiation, project planning, project execution, project monitoring & control, project closure.
